Our Story
Big Missions. Bold Moves. One Team That Delivers.
Two people. One conviction: that science, engineering, cybersecurity, and technology can revolutionize how the federal government can protect the country and its citizens, but only in the hands of people who truly understand the mission. That belief launched Axiom Consultants in 2008. Today it drives a 125-plus-person firm the defense and civilian government counts on for its hardest, most sensitive work. Here is how a two-person startup became a trusted federal prime, and why we are just getting started.
Laying the Foundation (2008-2015)
Our discipline was forged in the private sector, long before our first federal contract. Supporting CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, we forged the habits that still define us: uncompromising quality, personal accountability, and relentless customer focus. In 2015 we entered the federal arena as a subcontractor supporting NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), and turned that first foothold into a launch pad for everything that followed.
With that launch pad beneath us, we climbed fast. In 2016 we earned SBA 8(a) certification, validating years of hard work and opening new doors. Two years later we won our first prime contract with NOAA, the moment we proved we could lead, not just support. We spent the rest of the decade growing deliberately, building the team and the reputation that would fuel what came next.
Building Momentum (2020-2022)
Speed alone impresses no one. We accelerated with vision, mapping every move to mission so we and our growing customer base could reach new ground. In 2020 alone we won six contracts, grew to 30 employees, and locked in our commitment to quality with ISO and CMMI certifications. By 2021 we surpassed 50 employees and secured a Top Secret facility clearance, positioning us for the most sensitive and demanding federal missions. In 2022, NOAA named us its Small Business of the Year, an honor that reflected the “exceptional” performance our clients had come to expect. We closed the year 75 strong.
Scaling with Purpose (2023-Present)
By 2023, we turned momentum into expansion. We moved boldly on two fronts at once. To serve the NOAA community as a combined powerhouse, we launched the Propel Solutions Joint Venture with Lynker Corporation, uniting deep strength in weather, oceanography, science support, and modeling. Propel has already captured two NOAA agency IDIQs and five task orders. On the defense front, Axiom won three Navy cybersecurity contracts on its own and acquired Gormat LLC, a cybersecurity firm supporting the National Security Agency, launching a focused, fast-growing cybersecurity division. Buying a company as a growing 8(a) small business is a rare feat, and we did it while crossing 100 employees. In 2024 we drove deeper into the Department of Defense through Mentor-Protege partnerships and strategic acquisitions, and earned recognition among the nation’s top three Woman-Owned Small Businesses, a distinction we wear with pride.
Today and Beyond: Engineering What’s Next
Today we are more than 125 employees and still growing, honored most recently as NOAA’s 8(a) Small Business of the Year. In 2026 we graduated from the SBA 8(a) Business Development Program, completing the full nine-year journey and emerging as a mature, competitive prime contractor. As a Woman-Owned Small Business, we pair committed, accessible executive and programmatic leadership with deep technical expertise across science and engineering, enterprise IT modernization, cybersecurity, program management, and records management. We hold “exceptional” CPARS ratings across our prime contracts and maintain ISO 9001, ISO 20000, ISO 27001, CMMI Development Level 3, and CMMI Services Level 3 certifications, the marks of an organization built on standards, discipline, and results.
